An open-air performance stage outside Chicago, framed by stepped seating on three sides and an open edge facing the landscape. Built from standard 2x4 lumber and clad in brushed aluminum composite panels, its semi-reflective surface mirrors the surrounding trees, sky, and changing light. The project forms a temporary commons where audience, performer, and landscape share a single spatial condition.
The installation is centered on the tennis court, with two rows of splayed timber legs positioned on either side of the net.
Gathered green velvet forms a performance backdrop, producing high-contrast folds of light and shadow. The exposed frame shows its assembly from off-the-shelf components: nominal 2 × 4 timber studs, yellow tie-down straps, clamps, and Angelus Block 6 × 6 × 16 Concrete Slump Stone CMUs.
The CMUs ballast the legs, while the straps and clamps secure the connections. A pair of CMUs at the crown provides additional dead load, limiting lateral displacement. Structure and stabilization remain visible alongside the velvet surface.
